Due to lack of participation. We may do this hike in January instead.
Many thanks to Linda who has planned and is going to lead our December hike on the 13th. Here are the details:
Big South Fork: Angel Falls Overlook
Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Starbucks off the I75 north Merchant's Drive exit. Linda drives a large van and can transport 8 people. Look for her van in the parking lot.
Wear layers and bring a lunch to eat at the overlook.
If the weather looks bad, Linda will call off the hike either the night before or early that morning - you can also call her cell phone and/or send her an email directly:

Should be a beautiful day!
Seven Striders, including three new Striders (Tara, Laura and Theresa), hiked to Ramsay Cascades without major incident on Saturday. The skies were blue, the air was not too frigid, and the old growth tulip poplars were just as tall as ever.
I finally got a new camera, and here are some photos from the day. Theresa will be sending photos that I will post as well.
Howdy Striders,
It's been awhile since we've had a 'normal' Second Saturday hike. On November 8, let's do the 8 mile out-and-back Ramsay Cascades. Maybe we'll even see some snow! (I can hope..)
Meet at my house at 10 a.m., or at the trailhead (Greenbrier) at 11:15 a.m.
Looking forward to catching up with folks.

Details from the four day backpacking adventure along the A.T. from Davenport Gap to Newfound Gap are here.
- Sadly, the SAFC canceled their hike on 9/13 so the Striders didn't get to join the party. That weekend I backpacked 21 miles with Dre, McCoy and Brian in a 24 hour period. We started at Middle Prong, camped at #27, climbed Miry Ridge to the A.T. and came down Greenbrier Ridge for a lovely late summer hike.
- Join the Downtown North neighborhood bike ride Saturday! I'll be there, and I know some other Striders will be as well.
- Some weekend day hikes are in the works - cooler fall weather is here. More details later.
- On October 9th, Babes in the Woods will hit the A.T. at Davenport Gap and hike 31.4 miles over 4 days (U.T.'s fall break), coming out at Newfound Gap on Sunday. We have space for one more person if anyone's interested. Or, you can join Linda on Saturday and hike to Charlie's Bunion and spend the night with us at Icewater Springs shelter if we are still alive.
- Some of us will be going up to the New River Trail October 17-19 to cycle 50 miles along a converted railroad. There may still be some camping/shuttle spaces left if anyone is interested. This is in conjunction with Melissa Brenneman's annual fall cycling trip.
- November 8th will be the monthly Strider hike. Any suggestions for trails? How about an overnighter at Frozen Head, if it's not too cold? People could come for a day hike or spend the night.
- Finally, my good friend Julie will be escaping the cold northern winter to camp and hike with me over Thanksgiving weekend. Anyone still in town who wants to join us is welcome.
Renee will be coordinating the strenuous 7 miles Strider hike next
weekend (9/13).
Renee has reserved five spots - so let her know if you
want to join the party. She'll either leave super early Saturday
morning to get there in time, or possibly camp out Friday night. Contact renee@tcwn.org for more information
